Tooele Valley Wetlands
Special Area Management Plan
Draft

Tooele Valley Wetlands SAMP

The primary goal of Tooele Valley Wetlands Special Area Management Plan (SAMP) is to preserve, restore, and enhance wetlands while allowing for responsible urban development within the Plan Area. In order to realize these goals, a Steering Committee has been formed to oversee the planning process. The Steering Committee comprises private landowners and representatives from Tooele County, Grantsville, federal and state regulatory/resource agencies, and environmental groups. To date, the Steering Committee has set the goals and objectives of the SAMP process, which are detailed in the Project Charter. The next step in the process is to map and evaluate the wetlands within the SAMP boundary. This work is underway and is being undertaken by SWCA Environmental Consultants. Once the wetlands mapping and functional assessment is complete, the Steering Committee will decide on the type and location of appropriate future land uses within the Plan Area and how to implement the SAMP so that landowners may realize the value of their holdings while ensuring that wetlands are preserved and wetland impacts are mitigated in the most ecologically meaningful way. SWCA will then compile the final plan in accordance with the Steering Committee's wishes and work with federal and state resource and regulatory agencies to ensure that it complies with the requirements of the Clean Water Act and other environmental regulations.
